FAPRA ADOPTS A NEW NAME
At The Federation of African Public Relations Associations
(FAPRA) Council in Kampala, approval was given that the Secretariat
should register the organisation as a corporate body in Nigeria.
The proposed new name currently being processed for registration
is: Association of African Public Relations Practitioners
(AAPRP).
Welcome to a new dawn in the quest for ….“Setting
standards for the practice of public relations in Africa”.
PR International - Africa Organises Africa’s International
Public Relations Learning Event
BEEC International is organising Africa’s International
Public Relations Learning Event tagged Professionalism and
Creativity in Public Relations Practice.
The event which is proudly supported by: International Public
Relations Association (IPRA), The Federation of African Public
Relations, Institute of Public Relations, Ghana, Nigerian
Institute of Public Relations, The Management School, London
and BEEC International is scheduled to hold at La Palm Royal
Beach Hotel, Accra, Ghana on 8th to 12th July, 2008.

ACCREDITATION/EDUCATION
In order for the public relations profession in Africa to
gain greater international recognition, the Global Alliance
for Public Relations and Communication Management accreditation
system and the APR accreditation through PRISA have been approved
for adoption by the FAPRA Council. Professor Ronel Rensburg
and Mr. Chris Skinner are coordinating the programme.
PAYMENT OF DUES:
Members are encouraged to pay up their 2006 - 2008 annual
dues. Membership dues for 2006 - 2007 is $50 per annum. As
from 2008, the following dues shall apply: Senior Member ($200),
Associate Member ($100) and Student Member ($50). Please check

categories.
PUBLICATIONS:
“The People’s Republic of China and FAPRA: Catalysts
for Theory Building in Africa’s Public Relations”
an article jointly written by Cornelius B. Pratt, Temple University,
USA and Wole Adamolekun, Secretary General, FAPRA analyzes
the place of The People’s Republic of China, a nation
with different business interest in Africa, politically and
economically in the global scene. FAPRA’s action plan
geared towards providing a unifying framework for professionalizing
and enhancing public relations for a vibrant and developed
Africa.
Synergy In Public Relations
To achieve synergy in public relations practice, public relations
practitioners in the continent should work together to build
and strengthen individual national chapters, secure and promote
public relations career of our members wherever they may be.
Consequently, it is expected that in no distant future, a
lot of partnerships and cooperative endeavour would have been
developed.
IPRA SUMMIT 2008
The IPRA Summit is an annual international forum where senior
communications directors share best practice, exchange ideas,
network and engage in debates on a number of high-level topics
within the communication industry.
The Summit, which is scheduled to hold on 9th June 2008 at
The Honourable Artillery Company, Armoury House, City Road,
London will be followed by IPRA's Annual Golden World Awards
for Excellence Ceremony on 10th June 2008. The Award aims
to highlight the very best from the global public relations
industry.

Royal Outing
The forthcoming annual All Africa Public Relations Conference
and AGM in Kumasi promises to be exciting. The Asantehene,
Otumfuo Osei Tutu would be joined by the Kabaka of Buganda
(Uganda) to host the FAPRA 2008 Conference.
The Royal host has invited FAPRA Executives and the Kabaka
to his Anniversary Church Service on Sunday, April 27, 2008.
After the Church Service, the FAPRA Executives will join him
at a Special Lunch at his Manhyia Palace.
Also, on Wednesday, April 30, FAPRA delegates will be his
special guests at a special ceremony at the Palace during
the Lunch Break 12 - 2pm. The Asantehene will round up the
anniversary with the royalties with a Dinner for FAPRA members
on Thursday, May 1 at 7.00pm.

RWANDA LAUNCHES PR ASSOCIATION
Friday, March 28, 2008, will forever remain green in the minds
of PR practitioners in Rwanda as the Public Relations Association
of Rwanda (PRAR) has just been officially launched. The occasion
will be graced by eminent personalities in both public and
private sector including development partners and public relations
officers.
The Senior Advisor, Media and Public Relations, Office of
the President will be the Chief Guest at the event.

At the last Federation of African Public Relations Association
(FAPRA) Annual General Meeting in Kampala, Uganda, it was
agreed that in order to promote inclusivity in its membership
drive, a second-tier level of membership was reintroduced.
The different levels and the approved dues/fees are as follows:-
Senior Member ($200), Associate Member ($100), Student Member
($50) and Corporate Member ($500).
An application fee of $50 should accompany registration forms
which could be downloaded from the FAPRA website – www.fapra.org.
On request, the forms could be e-mailed to interested practitioners.
Intending members should note that their applications would
only be considered if they are endorsed by the home country
National Association.
All existing members that have put in more than 10 years in
public relations practice automatically becomes Senior Members.

NIGERIA HOSTS FAPRA HEADQUARTERS:
The Federation of African Public Relations Associations (FAPRA)
Council in Kampala approved that the Secretariat proceed to
register the organization as a corporate body in Nigeria.
The registration is currently in progress and members would
be informed as soon as the exercise is concluded.
ACTIVITIES:
The FAPRA Secretariat early in the year planned a Roundtable
on Corporate Social Responsibility. This could not hold for
some logistics reasons. The Secretariat has completed the
necessary ground work on a new version of the project, and
would make contract with prospective sponsors with MTN in
the lead early in the year. The programme is now repackaged
to address the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) functions
of public relations professionals based on a hands on CSR
Toolkit.
The MTN's support and encouragement is hereby acknowledged.
Other activities include a sponsored Breakfast Meeting in
Abuja is planned to facilitate interaction between members.
The programme is also to act as mid-conference opportunities
for professional updates. In addition, a Luncheon in Lagos
is planned to take place before the 2008 Annual Conference
scheduled for Kumasi, Ghana.
TIMEX, FAPRA AND NIPR ORGANIZE GLOBAL COMMUNICATION SUMMIT:
Timex Communications Limited, a Lagos based public relations
agency in partnership with the Federation of African Public
Relations Associations (FAPRA) and Nigerian Institute of Public
Relations (NIPR) has scheduled a Global Communication Summit
for February 2008.
The summit, which President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria is expected to declare open, will take
place at Le Meridien Hotel (now Nicon Luxury) Abuja on February
24 – 26, and plans to bring presidents/chairmen of international
public relations associations and their African counterparts
to examine the great potentials of communication in sensitizing
Nigerians and Africans in general on the anti-corruption war.
The theme of the Global Communication Summit is Building a
Corruption-Free Society: the Challenges of Communication and
it is in support of the Federal Government's war against corruption
.
NEW CONTACTS:
In its bid to reach out to members in all Africa Regions,
the FAPRA President, Secretary General and President, IPR
Ghana are making progress in establishing contacts with public
relations practitioners in the following countries: Libya,
Benin, Cameroun, Ethiopia, Namibia, Egypt, Cote D'Ivoire and
many others.
Of course their efforts are ongoing and it is hoped that some
of them would join us in Kumasi 2008 Conference. We look forward
to the reunion.

PRSK ELECTED TO SIT ON KENYA MEDIA COUNCIL
It was celebration galore when PRSK was nominated to sit in
the Media Council of Kenya following the publication of the
Media Act 2007 of 12th October 2007. This will no doubt promote
the spirit of objectivity.
NIPR ELECTION:
The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations recently held its
election at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Lafia, Nasarawa
State. We congratulate the President and the Council members.
Professor Ike Nwosu was reelected as President and Chairman
of Council for a second term.
PRNIGERIA GROUP:
PRNigeria Group is a new PR website where members have been
interacting and engaging in lively discussions on professional
and national issues. The site has remained active.

The FAPRA Secretariat is packaging a monograph of at least
3 papers each from the conferences held in Ghana, Nigeria,
South Africa and Kampala (2003-2007) for members use. The
publication is planned to be a regular feature from now onwards.
